why is social media marketing for small businesses important?

In case you didn’t know (please sense the sarcasm), social media marketing is the process of using social media platforms to promote a product or service. Wow, really? I had no idea!

Okay, okay, but why have I just established the obvious? Well for some small businesses (more than you’d think), social media marketing doesn’t appear to be a priority even in the slightest, but it’s been proven to be an effective way to reach and engage with their target audience and drive sales. So therefore, the purpose of this article is to go over a few of the main reasons why EVERY small business should be doing social media marketing.

> why social media marketing is important for small businesses:

Cost-effective

Social media marketing is a cost-effective way for small businesses to reach a large audience. Many social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, are completely free to use but also offer really affordable paid advertising options that allow businesses to target specific demographics and track the success of their campaigns. If a small business knows exactly who their target audience is, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t at least give paid social advertising a go on a small budget to test the waters.

Increased reach and visibility

Social media platforms have mind-blowingly large user bases which can help small businesses increase their reach and visibility. By regularly posting interesting & engaging content and using the right hashtags, small businesses can increase their visibility and attract new followers without even spending a penny. There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Improved customer engagement

Social media allows businesses to directly engage with customers and respond to their questions and concerns. This can help build customer trust and loyalty and improve the overall customer experience. For businesses that really good at engaging with their customers, some of those customers may become so loyal that they may begin to post on social media about you, generating something called User-Generated Content (UGC) which is in itself free word-of-mouth advertising.

Increased website traffic

Who likes a really high ROI? With social media, a small business can drive traffic to their website, which can lead to increased sales and revenue with very little investment into the social media posts that initially drove those conversions.

Social media marketing sounds great, right? That said, it is still important for small businesses to carefully consider their social media marketing strategy and allocate the necessary resources to manage their social media presence. This includes regularly posting engaging content, responding to customer inquiries and concerns, and monitoring & analysing the success of their campaigns. So in conclusion, there really are no excuses as to why a small business would not use social media in its marketing!
